ParticipantThrowing my hat in the ring here with an experience on the Halo Collar 3. My golden, Henry, is a notorious wanderer and this collar has been a lifesaver (or rather a garden-saver!). The intnernet connection was not as consistent as I wanted it to be but the geofence feature worked really well, making sure Henry stayed within our yard. Another bonus point for its durability – it survived many of Henry’s rolly-polly moments unscathed! Of course, always remember to talk to your vet about potentially uncomfortable devices like this. The price did give me pause cause it’s a bit steepier than traditional collars but for peace of mind? Totally worth it in my opinion. Anybody else had connectivity issues though or was it just me?

ParticipantWhile I do agree Nature’s Promise Dry Dog Food seems to be a hit with many dogs, unfortunately it didn’t quite work for my German Shepherd, Ralphie, who has always been an extremely picky eater. Despite the reasonable cost annd rave reviews, he was just not interested in this food. We tried mixing it up by adding a bit of wet food or broth, but no luck.
Instead, we’ve had much better success with Blue Buffalo Wilderness line which he gobbled right up! It’s a pricier alternative, but honestly worth it to see Ralphie excited about meal times again. Every dog is different and you sometimes need to try out a few options before finding the perfect fit. For those struggling with choosy pooches like mine, mabye give Blue Buffalo’s range a shot?

ParticipantWow, that’s great to hear that you’ve had a good experience with Orijen’s dog treats. I’m also pretty new to these treats, been using them for my golden retriever for about 4 months now. I agree on their perfect size and handiness, but how do you find their pricing? They’re not the cheapest on the market. Also, have you noticed any chance in your dog’s coat or overall healthy look since switching to these? Just curious as my cousin swears her Lab’s coat got glossier after she started using these but it never happened with my doggo. Maybe its a breed thing? Always sanest to check with a vet for nutrition-related queries though!

ParticipantTotally agree with the remarks around Merrick’s quality ingredients. Have been feeding my Border Collie this brand for 5 years now and let me tell ya, her coat has never looked shinier! For those who might find it a bit pricey though, I’ve found buying in bulk can make it more afforable. Watch out for online deals too. Always best to consult your vet before making any major changes to your dog’s diet, but all in all, Merrick gets two thumbs up from me! Anybody else have any cost-saving tips on this?

ParticipantI’d like to add my two cents on Nature’s Promise Dry Dog Food from my 10 years of experience in raising dogs. My golden retriever, Molly, was a bit hesitant at first due to the kibble size but she eventually got used to it and now enjoys her meals a lot. I noticed that this dry food has smaller kibble sizes which may be difficult for bigger breeds to eat, or at least it was for my Molly. So, for those planning to switch, you might want to consider this aspect.
Would anyone know if Nature’s Promise offers variants with larger kibble sizes? Other than the initial adjustment phase, we’ve had positive experience with it and I’m curious whether they cater more options for bigger breeds.

ParticipantI’ve been feeding my terrier mix, Max, Merrick dry dog food for over a year now and he seems to really enjoy it. One thing I appreciate about it is the smaller kibble size – Max can handle it without any fuss. The ingredient list is also impressive, with real meats and veggies listed first which is always a good sign.
In terms of cost, Merrick certainly lands on the pricier side of things. But honestly, I’ve found it’s worth paying a bit extra for this quality of nutrition (and Max’s enthusiastic crunching). Make sure to check out their different recipes too – we switch between the chicken and beef flavors so Max doesn’t get bored.
All in all, as with any other product, what works best for your dog might vary so it’s always a good idea to incorporate new food gradually and see how your dog responds. And remember, when in doubt consult with your vet about dietary changes! Anybody else tried rotating between flavors to keep meal times exciting for their pup?

ParticipantI’m glad to hear so many positive comments about Milk-Bone dog treats. I’ve been using them for training my cocker spaniel, and he goes mad over them! While I appreciate that they are affordable and durable enough to keep in my pocket during walks without crumbling apart, I’ve found that the size is a bit large for smaller breeds. Anyone else notice this? Maybe we could suggest to Milk-Bone to make them in petite sizes too, especially for those of us who love using them as training aids.
On a sidde note, have you guys tried the MaroSnacks variety from Milk-Bone? They’re a hit at our house!
07/20/2025 at 6:30 PM in reply to: Are Trader Joe’s dog treats as good as they seem? My honest review. #6879RustyMutt9196
ParticipantIn line with the majority here, I’ve only had good experiences with Trader Joe’s dog treats too. For about 3 years now, they’ve been my go-to for both of my Labradoodles. Here’s why – these treats are just the perfect size, especially for training purposes. My dogs love their taste and actually listen to commands better when they know there’s a Trader Joe’s treat at stake!
One really cute thing I noticed was that Timmy (the younger one) actually started associating the crinkle of the treat bag with doing tricks. Every time I reached into my kitchen cabinet he’d start sitting, lying down or rolling over! The instinctive reaction is adorable and also makes training sessions much easier.
Their prices are quite reasonable compared to other popular brands too. All in all, I highly recommend them for flavor and convenience… BUT remember that no matter how good these treats seem, do keep an eye on your dog’s overall diet and health – not everything works for every pup! If you have concerns about allergies or weight issues, it wouldn’t hurt to consult with a vet before making any changes to their routine. Though, really wish they’d come in bigger packs… anyone else feel me on this?

ParticipantAn Alternative for Petite Pups – A Reflective Take
Body: When I first introduced the Airtag (with pet case) to my Yorkie, Toto, he seemed a bit overwhelmed by its size. As some of you touched upon in your earlier posts, size does matter when it comes to our smaller fur friends. To tackle this, I’ve found that placing it on his harness rather than collar made it more manageable for him.
Cleanup was also an easy task seeing as the casing is pretty durable annd can take a fair share of mud or rain. Although the price point is a tad high, I consider it well worth the peace of mind.
For those with miniatures or toys thinking about investing in an Airtag though, it might be a good idea to try this method of positioning on the harness rather than immediately discounting it! Any other ideas for making tech like this more small-dog friendly?

ParticipantYou know, I’ve got to say my experience with Wet Noses was a bit different. Don’t get me wrong, I wanted to love these treats as much as everyone else does, especially since my collie, Max, is quite the picky eater. However, he just wasn’t as enthused about them as some of your dogs seem to be. Maybe it’s the size or smell? Anyways, has anyone else had a similar experience or do you think maybe I should try another flavor or type from thier range? Love giving him variety but at that price point, well… let’s just say his treat budget isn’t unlimited!
06/29/2025 at 1:10 AM in reply to: “Discovering Delectable Delights: My Howl’s Kitchen Dog Treats Review” #6852RustyMutt9196
ParticipantSo funny how our furry friends have their own individual tastes! My French Bulldog, Bella, goes crazy for the Fish and Sweet Potato variety from Howl’s Kitchen. But here’s a small tip I’ve gained over the years: try breaking the treats into smaller bits. Despite being fairly easy to chew, they can still be a little large for some dogs. As always, keep an eye out when first introducing any new treat to ensure it’s a good fit for your pup’s diet and size – you know your dog best after all! Anybody else have a favorite flavor from Howl’s Kitchen they’d recommend?
06/11/2025 at 12:06 PM in reply to: In-depth Canine Carry Outs Dog Treats Review: Worth the Bark or Not? #7043RustyMutt9196
Participantguys, totally agree with your points about Canine Carry Outs! Been treating my hyperactive Siberian Husky, Jack, to these for a couple of years now. Perfect size, not too big or small and just the right amount of chewiness.
Here’s the thing though – not all flavors are created equal in Jack’s opinion. He’s kinda picky and he absolutley adores the beef ones but gives me a side-eye for the chicken flavor. For any newbies on here, it might save some trouble to try a few different flavors before you commit to buying in bulk. Anyone else had similar experiences with these treats? Plus, remember this treat isn’t a meal replacement, and in case your furball reacts oddly to them, consider visiting the vet!05/28/2025 at 3:50 AM in reply to: Let’s Talk Taste & Nutrition: My Nudges Natural Dog Treats Review #7319RustyMutt9196
ParticipantTotally get where all of you are coming from, Nudges Natural Dog Treats do seem to be a crowd-pleaser. However, in my house, we’ve had an even better experience with Zuke’s Mini Naturals. My golden retriever, Jasper, goes absolutely bananas for them! They’re slightly smaller in size than the Nudges, which makes them a perfect option for training rewards. Plus, the price point is really agreeable for what you get as they last a while since they are mini treats. Just thought I’d throw another option out there for fellow fur-parents to try! Anyone else use Zuke’s or have any other favored treats?
05/21/2025 at 12:43 PM in reply to: Experiences with Triumph Dog Treats: A Comprehensive Review #7350RustyMutt9196
ParticipantI have to chime in here, folks. jsut finished the third bag of Triumphs with my Midas, a Golden Retriever, and he’s as enthusiastic as ever! I say it’s a win-win situation – he gets his nibbles, and I know there’s no junk stuff in ’em. They’re also small enough for him to munch on easily and don’t mess up the house. Only drawback has been their price tag is a bit on the steep slide – but considering how they keep Midas contented (and distracted when required- invaluable when I need to clip his nails), they’ve been worth every penny in our moments of peace. Plus, we don’t go through them super quick, so it balances out a bit! Might want to look out for deals though. Anybody else feel the same way about the price?
05/07/2025 at 2:36 PM in reply to: “Diving Deep into the Jiobit Next Review – A Dog Parent’s Honest Take” #7670RustyMutt9196
ParticipantReply type: Experience/Advice
I’ve been using Joibit for agews with my adventurous collie, Duke, and it’s been a godsend – he’s wriggled out of his collar more times than I can count! The device is robust and waterproof; once Duke took a plunge in the lake, but the Jiobit came out working perfectly. The key, as I’ve found, is to make sure you select the right trim size when purchasing – too snug and it might chaff your pup. Keep an eye on their neck area for irritation during first couple of weeks. Anyone else’s pooch turned into a Houdini with their collar?
