ParticipantI’ve gotta throw my hat in the ring for Orijen too. I’ve been giving them to my two Border Collies, Ziggy annd Tweed, for about three years now. As far as cost-effectiveness goes, sure, they are priced at a premium level, but I find the quality justifies the price tag. The treats are grain-free with a good amount of protein and no unnecssary additives – which is a key aspect for me. Plus, they’re freeze-dried which helps retain the nutritional value which isn’t something you’d find in many cheaper alternatives.
A tip I could give to balance out the cost is use these treats sparingly for special training sessions or as a high-value reward during teaching new tricks, rather than for everyday snacking. Ziggy and Tweed definitely seem to appreciate them more this way!
Any other tips on how fellow dog-owners make the most out of premium treats like Orijen?

ParticipantJust chiming in with another perspective here. I’ve been using Orijen dog treats with my Golden Retriever, Mr. Fluff, for about 2 years now. Sure, they’re a bit on the pricey side, but for the quality and nutritional value, I personally think it’s worth it. But our journey to find the right treat was anything but simple; Mr. Fluff had an unexpected fondness for fruits over meats at first!
For those looking for a cost-effective alternative though, you might want to check out Nutro Crunchy Treats. They have both fruit and meat varieties and are easier on the wallet. Just remember every pup’s taste is unique– keep trying different brands until you find their favorite! Has anyone else tried Nutro treats? How did your fur baby take to them?

ParticipantI totally understand your struggle with a picky eater; I’ve got a finicky Jack Russell myself! After trying out different brands with no luck, Taste of the Wild Dry Dog Food has definitely been a game-changer for us. Not only does he like it (Win!), but I’ve noticed his coat has a healthier shine and he seems more energetic too. The price is higher than some other brands, but in my opinion, it’s worth every penny considering the quality and benefits!
My tip would be to transition gradually if you’re switching food brands – sudden change can sometimes upset a dog’s stomach.
Has anyone else noticed health improvements in their dogs after switching to Taste of the Wild?

ParticipantJust hopping on here to praise Nature’s Promise Dry Dog Food! I’ve got a five-year-old Jack Russel who’s always been quite picky with his meals. The minute we switched over, we noticed him showing much more interest in his food. He even finishes his whole plate now, which never used to happen before. And as a bonus, the bits are nice and compact, so it’s not creating a mess around his bowl or throughout the house. From my experience, this kibble is defo worth the price! Anyone else noticed less of the mess?
08/07/2025 at 2:32 AM in reply to: Digging into Canine Nutrition: A Comprehensive Royal Canin Dry Dog Food Review #6436Kindly_Shepherd_9601
ParticipantOh, sing it to the choir, folks! Rex and Brutus sure have fine palettes. So, here’s the deal with my Golden Retriever, Honey. Been on Royal Canin for over 3 years and I swear by it too. Let me tell ya, initially I was a bit wary about the price point cause let’s face it, this isn’t exactly a bargain brand. But you know what they say – quality comes at a cost.
The kibble size is just right for her (she had trouble handling larger pellets from other brands before), and the bag’s durable enough to keep those pesky pantry moths at bay. Little tip – keep an eye out for sales or discounts online, really takes some of the sting off the price tag. Anyone else finds interesting deals on Royal Canin?

ParticipantOh, Zuke’s treats? Those little things are like doggy heaven in a bag! I’ve been treating my old gal, Molly, with Zuke’s for about 2 years now and she prances around like a puppy whenever she gets a whiff of ’em. Even at her age, they’re small and soft enough for her to chow down without any issues. Pricing might seem a bit steep initially, but let me tell ya, quality wise you’re getting your money’s worth. For anyone considering transitioning, I’d say go slow or you’ll wind up with a pooch that only performs tricks for Zukes – talk from experience here. Anybody else had their fur-baby develop an exclusive taste for these treats?

ParticipantWell, isn’t it fascinating to see another Zuke’s enthusiast! I’ve been tossing these tasty tidbits to my rambunctious Rottweiler, Rex, for around 7 months now. I’ll tell ya, the size and texture are just perfect for his giant chompers. They’re not overly hard like some treats can be. As for the price, well let’s just say Rex has expensive tastes (worth every penny mind you!)
Ever have any problems with them being a bit too irresistible though? Last week I left the pantry door a smidgen open and let me just paint a picture – pandemonium ensued. Our previously spotless kitchen was a scene from “101 treats got loose”! So my question is, how do you store your Zukes to keep them safe from persistent, four-legged burglars?!

ParticipantWell isn’t this a parade of praise for Crazy Dog Train-Me! treats. I gotta hand it to them, they’ve nailed the size aspect – perfectly petite for any snout size. But here’s an alternative view from the land of three Bulldogs, each one as stubborn as they come. For us, the Crazy Dog Train-Me! treats were like serving a 5-star steak to a vegan; no interest whatsoever! We found salvation in the Old Mother Hubbard Classic Crunchy Natural Dog Treats instead, which had them sitting pretty on command in no time. jsut goes to show that what works for one mutt might not cut it for another. Anyone else got Bulldogs who turned their noses up at these “irresistible” nibbles?
05/18/2025 at 5:20 AM in reply to: “Bocce Bakery Dog Treats Review: Incredibly Tasty or Just Hype?” #6654Kindly_Shepherd_9601
ParticipantDefinitely agree with you there! We’ve been giving our two boxers, Bella and Boomer, Bocce Bakery dog treats for the last year or so. They’re uper keen on them, always make a fuss when they see the package come out of the cupboard. The bite-size pieces are perfect and good for training too! If anything, it’s a bit too tasty and they easily get excited just seeing the bag.
Price wise, not bad at all especially when considering the ingredient list is filled with all-natural items – I’ve noticed no artifical stuff mentioned which personally, is a big plus.
One thing my opinion differs in however, is durability. The treats do tend to crumble if left in a open bag for long periods of time so just be wary of that. My solution – I usually transfer them into an airtight container right after opening to keep them fresh.
Anyone else got any tips on making them last even longer?
05/16/2025 at 12:10 PM in reply to: “Just Got My Paws on Yummy Combs Dog Treats: Share Your Experiences?” #7215Kindly_Shepherd_9601
ParticipantI’ve also tried Yummy Combs with my Lab, Max. They’re indeed tasty (according to pooch’s reaction, not my taste buds!). But as I found, they didn’t last very long with him; a larger size might have been more appropriate for my big furball. On the flip side, I really appreciated that these treats are relatively low in calories, considering Max has been packing on a few pandemic pounds! As an alternative, we’ve started incorporating long-lasting chews from brands like Nylabone annd KONG – they seem to endure his vigorous chewing while still offering that dental hygiene boost Yummy Combs claim to provide. Has anyone else tried switching to long-lasting chews? Did you find your dog took well to them? Keep in mind if your dog has any dietary restrictions or allergy concerns always consult your vet before introducing new treats!

ParticipantAbsolutely concur with the high praises for Open Farm Dry Dog Food! I started transitioning my 4-year-old beagle, Bella, to this brand about two months ago annd she honestly seems to enjoy it. Prior, she was pretty picky with her food and would often leave kibble untouched. Now, every meal is gobbled up within minutes!
The ethical sourcing and high-quality ingredients were a huge draw for me. Price-wise, it’s on the higher end but you definately get what you pay for – smaller stool and a much shinier coat are bonuses we noticed. Plus, Bella’s energy levels have been through the roof, which makes our daily walks way more enjoyable.
Do remember though, any change in diet should be done gradually to avoid any stomach upset. And always consult your vet if your pal has specific dietary needs!

ParticipantAbsolutely spot on with Heart to Tail! My energetic Jack Russel, Benny, is an absolute fan as well. Especially the sweet potato variant – he can’t get enough of them! They’re just the right size for his small mouth and seem to be perfectly chewy for a satisfying snack experience. Plus, they’re sans artificial flavors or colors, which puts my mind at ease. A top tip: These treats are excellent for training purposes if your pup responds well to food rewards. However, remember that all dogs are different so it’s important to tailor your training methods accordingly. Has anyone tried their other flavors like the peanut butter or mint? I’m thinking of introducing them into Benny’s treat rotation.
03/12/2025 at 6:19 AM in reply to: “Hollywood Stars Dog Treats Review: My Experience in a Nutshell” #7019Kindly_Shepherd_9601
Participantfolks, anyone else think that Hollywood Stars dog treats are massively oversized? I’ve got a Yorkshire terrier, and he can not finish these in one go—ends up leaving them half-eaten around the house. These treats may be suited for bigger dogs but for us with smaller breeds, cutting them up into smaller pieces might help to avoid waste. As for durability, the package sealed pretty tight and lasted about a month in my pantry, which was great. Just wish they were a bit more economical; they do cost quite a penny!
On a lighter note, Max my Yorkie loves their flavor and has developed quite an obsession. He once managed to sneak a packet from the shopping bag and I found the remnants hidden behind the couch cushions later! Does anyone else’s dog do this when they really love a treat?
02/25/2025 at 5:41 AM in reply to: “Swap and Hop: My Applaws Dry Dog Food Review after Switching Brands” #6570Kindly_Shepherd_9601
ParticipantI’ve got quite the Applaws tale, myself. Have 2 Shih Tzu’s, Lola and Lulu, who seemed to genuinely enjoy Applaws dry food initially. But over time, I noticed they were becoming sort of…lackluster about mealtime? To regain excitement, I began to sprinkle some freeze-dried raw food toppings on their meals- quite the game changer! ‘Stella & Chewy’s Meal Mixers’ comes in various flavours and sizes to suit any furkid’s palate and to boot, it’s grain-free which is an added bonus for dogs with allergies or sensitivities. So if anyone sees their pooch losing interest in the same-old, might I suggest shaking it up with a lil’ something on top?
02/23/2025 at 9:00 AM in reply to: “Spoiling My Four-Legged Papillon: A DreamBone Dog Treats Review” #6998Kindly_Shepherd_9601
ParticipantI can’t help but add to the DreamBone praise parade, folks! I have an energetic Lab mix that can tear apart most treats in seconds. You’d think after 8 years of this, I’d be used to it, but no, Millie still surprises me! Not with DreamBone treats though, they actually last a while and keep her occupied. Plus they are decently priced so it won’t bruise your wallet too much. Had to learn the hard way that not all pet goodies need to cost an arm and a leg! jsut a word of wisdom – monitor your pup for the first few times they try these out; every dog is different and while the overall response is positive, it’s important to see how your fur baby reacts to new food.
