ParticipantHas anyone tried the grain-free version of Blue Buffalo treats? My two Terriers, Jack and Daisy, are absolute treat monsters and I’ve been contemplating switching to a grain-free diet for them. Having owned dogs for 17 years now, I find that smaller pieces work better for little breeds like mine – otherwise they tend to have a go at the entire pouch in one sitting! Obviously, it’s important to balance out their diet so I don’t want to overdo on the treats. From a cost perspective, are the grain-free alternatives pricier or about the same? Feedback based on your experience would be super helpful!

Participantjsut chiming in on the “kibble size” theme. Once had a tiny Yorkie who would only begrudgingly chew on big kibbles. Pedigree’s small breed formula was perfect for her though – the kibble size was just right and she had no trouble gobbling them up! As a bonus, it doesn’t cost an arm and a leg like some premium brands. But remember always, while size matters, ensuring your dog is getting the right nutritional balance is paramount.
Remember, all dogs are different so it might take some trial and error to find what works best for your fur baby. Always consult with a vet if you’re unsure!
Just curious: have any of you tried mixing dry and wet food? Does it help with feeding difficulties based on size or texture preference?

ParticipantI’ve actually just recently got these Yummy Combs treats for my Golden Retriever, Bella. She took to them like a pro! These treats are pretty durable, which is great because Bella is a pretty vigorous chewer. They’re a bit on the larger size so smaller dogs might have a bit of a tougher time with them. One thing I’d definitely advise is, if you’re introducing new treats to your pup’s diet, do it slowly and watch for any signs of reactions or upset stomachs. All in all, considering the quality and price, I’d say they’re solid option. Happy munching to your doggos!

ParticipantOh, the saga of finding the right size kibble for our pint-sized friends! I’ve been riding that rollercoaster with my Teacup Chihuahua, Pixie. jsut like Max annd Pippin, she was struggling to munch on Pedigree’s larger pieces.
Luckily, I stumbled upon a brand named “Small Bites” – quite self-explanatory ain’t it? Despite its relatively unknown status, the price is decent enough to give it a shot. Been 2 months with it now and it seems like Pixie and her tiny jaws are finally having a ball at meal times.
Just remember folks, when in doubt about your doggo’s diet or food habits, nothing beats a quick check-in with your trusted vet.

ParticipantI have to agree with you here, Whimzees dog treats are a hit with my goldie too! I always struggle to find the perfect size of treat in other brands, but Whimzee’s variety pack has been a godsend honestly. My Cooper isn’t particularly choosy but he does have a penchant for their alligator-shaped ones, go figure.
I found their durable texture great for keeping his chompers clean – an unexpected bonus. As for the price point, well, it’s not the cheapest on the market but considering they last longer than regular treats annd the visible boost to Cooper’s dental health, I consider this solidly worth it.
Anyone else discovered any fun shapes their pups are partial too? Also should I be worried about him preferring alligators over sticks? Could this mean a career as a reptile trainer is in his future? Jokes aside, totally recommend giving Whimzees a try especially if you’ve got picky eaters at home!
03/24/2025 at 7:09 PM in reply to: “Hollywood Stars Dog Treats Review: My Experience in a Nutshell” #7025Happy_Furryfriend_6311
ParticipantOh yeah, the Hollywood Stars treats are like gargantuan doggy-biscuit planets! My little pug, Goliath (yes, ironic I know), looked at me like I was insane when I first tried to give him one – perhaps contemplating if it was a new chew toy instead. As for durability, they sure stand up to gnawing! Still, the price point is a bit up there…but then again, what do you expect from something named “Hollywood”, right? Anyhow, I’d suggest breaking them into smaller pieces for the pooches on the leaner side of things or those with a smaller bite radius. Gives you more bang for your buck too! But overall, it’s been a hilarious sight and Goliath doesn’t seem to mind after getting used to his giant treat!

ParticipantUnlucky for me, my bulldog Doris has always been a picky eater. I decided to give these Hollywood Stars dog treats a go, and she actually loved them! A bit on the pricey side I must say, but seeing her satisfied munching away – well, who can put a price on a happy pooch? An added bonus – they’re small enough for her to eat without any struggle. Do make sure your dog isn’t allergic to any of the ingredients though, that’s one tip I’ve learned the hard way. But overall, no regret here!
02/09/2025 at 6:37 AM in reply to: “Swap and Hop: My Applaws Dry Dog Food Review after Switching Brands” #6564Happy_Furryfriend_6311
ParticipantHad to chime in here because I’m just as much an Applaws fan! After swapping from another well-known brand around six months ago, my little Pomeranian, Louie, hasn’t looked askance at his bowl once. I was initially taken aback by the price but then compared the ingredient list of Applaws to other brands and boy, what a difference! I mean, we all want the best for our pups, right? That said, I’d recommend introducing any new food gradually. Louie took a fortnight to fully adjust. Has anyone else noticed their dogs poop less with Applaws? Is it due to the high meat content or something else?

ParticipantI’ve been a Full Moon enthusiast too for my Rottweiler, Bella. The size of the treats is jsut right for a large breed like her and they seem to be made of quality ingredients. I have had one tiny issue though – while the pack says it’s resealable, I’ve found that the seal breaks easily, at least in my experience. Anyone else face this or is it just me being clumsy? Good thing is, Bella doesn’t mind them being a little harder after exposure to air but I’d prefer they stay fresh.
For those having trouble with this too, try using a treat jar or Ziplock bags as a workaround. Still love these treats overall and would recommend they invest in better packaging mabye? If not, no biggie… Bella and I are still fans!

ParticipantI can totally relate to the array of responses here. My Beagle, Buster, definitely has a picky palate and he seems to love the Fromm dog treats. What I particularly like about these treats is their size; they’re quite ideal for training sessions – not too big and not too small. Plus, considering their ingredient quality, I think the price is fairly reasonable. However, it’s worth mentioning that these treats are quite hard compared nuggets from other brands we’ve tried before, so some dogs might need a bit of time to get used to them. Trust me, Buster took a few days before he was munching them down with no issues. As always though, if you’re unsure or if your dog is having trouble with any food products it’s a good idea to consult your vet.
Has anyone else found the hardness of these treats an adaptive challenge for their dog?
11/03/2024 at 3:48 AM in reply to: “Honest Nutro Dog Treats Review: Efficient and Value for Money, Perhaps?” #6796Happy_Furryfriend_6311
ParticipantI’ve been using Nutro dog treats for training sessions with my Beagle, Bailey, for about two years now and I can definately say the size of these treats is perfect for smaller breeds. The chewiness keeps Bailey engaged without being so tough that it interrupts the flow of our training. However, although their ingredients are great and my dog loves them, I did find that they crumble easily in my pocket or treat bag over the course of a walk. Does anyone else experience this issue? Tips on keeping them intact would be welcomed! As for value, if you use them as sparingly as we do (Bailey works hard for her treats), a single bag can go a long way. I’ve found them to be more cost-effective than other high-end brands.

ParticipantAgreeing with you all here on Fruitables! They’re a hit with my Border Collie, Echo. She especially loves the pumpkin and apple flavor. Finding treats that she likes can be a bit hit or miss due to her pickiness, but these have been a consistent favorite for about a year now.
Just a little tip from me to any owners of fussy eaters out there: try to introduce different flavors gradually. Don’t just stick to one they like; switching it up can actually help to keep your pup’s interest in their treats! Anyone else found this trick useful or have different ones to prevent treat boredom?
Happy_Furryfriend_6311
ParticipantSounds like Fromm treats are very popular here! I’ve been considering trying these for my Beagle pup. Any thoughts on if the size of these treats would be right for a smaller breed like mine? Also, how’s the ingredient list? My Lily has a bit of a sensitive stomach.
As for my past treat experience, I once bought these premium chews that ended up being way too big and tough for her. Learned the hard way that labels can be deceiving sometimes. Thanks in advance for any advice!
Happy_Furryfriend_6311
ParticipantAbsolutely agree with all the praises for Fruitables! I’ve got a lovable Lab named Buddy, and he’s been on these treats for a couple of years now. Like the pumpkin flavor in particular since it helps with his digestion (though, for any health concerns, do see a vet). I appreciate how petite the treats are too – perfect for training sessions or just a munch between meals. Plus, no junk ingredients to worry about. Have you guys tried the blueberry flavor? Buddy seems to love that one as well and I’m thinking of stocking up.
10/03/2024 at 6:32 AM in reply to: “An Honest Buddy Biscuits Dog Treats Review: From a Fussy Eater’s Perspective” #6952Happy_Furryfriend_6311
ParticipantDefinitely, Buddy Biscuits have been a big hit in our home as well! My corgi, Toby, is a picky eater but he cannot resist these treats due to thier perfect size and palatable flavors. The biscuits are easy enough for him to chew and they’ve become an ideal training tool. jsut wave one in front of Toby when he’s being stubborn, it’s like seeing a little light click on in his head!
Another thing I adore about these treats is their affordability. It doesn’t put much pressure on the wallet, which makes me an even bigger fan. For anyone looking to try them out, gradually introduce them into your dog’s diet to help prevent potential tummy upset. Gotta say, these biscuits are proving themselves to be worth every cent!
