  • Oh, I hear you on the size inconsistency of Good ’n’ Fun treats. My Boxer, Theo, once got a piece that wasn’t bigger than his paw. While he didn’t seem to mind I was a bit disappointed, care about the value after all. So I switched to dividing the larger ones myself, to manage the portions better. Plus, it’s actually kept Theo more interested because the treat sizes change up every time. Maybe give it a try? Of course, no dog treat is perfect and everyone’s experience may differ!

Just hopping on the Royal Canin train here. My loveable Lab, Oscar, has been enjoying this brand’s dry kibble for a while now. Originally, he was more of a picky eater with an adventurous palate (or so I thought), preferring a variety of natural raw foods over commercial brands. But, then we tried out the Royal Canin adult blend and he loved it! The kibble size works great for him, being neither too small nor too large. Plus, no durability issues with the bag either – the zip seal keeps everything fresh.

As for price, sure, it’s a bit on the higher side compared to some other names out there. But considering that every bag lasts quite long for us coupled with the visible improvement in our dog’s shiny coat and active behavior – feels like money well spent to me.

Summing up my experience: convenient, reliable and apparently tasty (at least according to Oscar)! One thing I would mention though is not to shift your dog’s diet all at once from his current food to any new food including Royal Canin. Just introduce it gradually so thier tummy can adjust. 👍

Anyone else had similar experiences switching their pup onto Royal Canin? Or maybe alternative food suggestions for naturally inclined dogs?

I’ve tried Trader Joe’s dog treats for my Goldendoodle, Teddy, and he seems to like them just fine, although I have noticed he needs a few extra chomps to break them down. They’re pretty sturdy snacks which initially caught me off guard as Teddy typically goes for softer treats. Guess it’s good for his dental health as an unplanned perk! Has anyone else noticed that these treats are slightly harder or is it just my batch? For those with smaller breeds, do you find the size manageable or a bit too bulky? As always, if there’s any concern with your furbaby’s ability to chew certain treats safely, consulting with the vet would be wise.

I’ve been giving Trader Joe’s dog treats to my two Labradors for nearly a year now, and they absolutely love them! The size of the treats is perfect for both my big boy and his smaller sister; I especially appreciate that they don’t crumble to bits like some other brands I’ve tried.

As far as price goes, they’re a fantastic deal compared to other more expensive premium dog treat options on the market. The one time we ran out – cue horrified gasps – I made the mistake of buying an alternative brand. Let me tell you, both pups gave me that disappointed-doggy-look all pet owners dread!

One thing worth mentioning though, if your pooch has a sensitive stomach you may want to introduce the treats gradually just to be sure it agrees with them. And if you notice anything unusual health wise, it’s always a good practice to check in with your vet right away.

But overall, big thumbs up for Trader Joe’s from me (and eager paw shakes from my Labs!). Anyone else had any experiences with changing brands causing their dogs to turn into mini drama queens/kings?

Just diving in here to add my two cents on the Wet Noses dog treats. For me, it’s not just about the price but also about the quality and nutritional aspects of these treats. My Cocker Spaniel, Riley, absolutely adores the peanut butter flavored ones! Yet again, I have noticed he isn’t gaining any additional weight, and his coat is as glossy as ever. The size of the treat is pretty generous too – they last a good while with Riley being a moderately fast eater. So, overall thumbs up for Wet Noses from this dog parent!

I can vouch for the popularity of Blue Buffalo treats in our household too! My Boxer, Bruno, practically does backflips whenever he sees me reaching for the bag. In terms of size, they’re just perfect – not so big that they’re a meal substitute but substantial enough to keep Bruno engaged. The price might seem a tad steep compared to other products on the market, but I’ve found that the quality and natural ingredients make it worthwhile. One thing I’d suggest to first-time users though is to gradually introduce these treats into their dog’s diet. Changes in diet can cause some stomach upset for a little while. Of course, if you notice anything out of the ordinary, consulting your vet would be the safest option. Has anyone come across any occasional availability issues or are these treats always easy to find in your area?

Just like you guys, I’m singing high praises for Yummy Combs! I have a notoriously picky Great Dane called Nova and she’s head over heels for these treats. They’re really good-sized, which is great for larger breeds like mine. Durability is also a plus – they actually last longer than most other treats we’ve tried.

For all those with pups on the heavier side, here’s a tip: these seem to keep her entertained without packing on unnecessary calories. Though, as always, you should monitor your dog’s diet and consult with a vet if there are any concerns.

A small aside, but have you noticed an improvement in your dog’s breath too? I swear Nova’s breath has been more pleasant since we introduced these treats into her routine – might be something worth noting!

A Boxer’s Review on Crazy Dog Train-Me! Treats

Body: Joining in the treat talk here, my feisty Boxer, Duke, is also a big fan of these Crazy Dog Train-Me! treats. He just can’t get enough of the liver flavor and quite honestly, he seems to be learning commands faster than ever. I am particularly happy with the small size of the treats – perfect for a quick reward during training sessions without piling on too much extra calories. Plus, their price point isn’t too hard on my pocket either.

Quick tip: Just make sure the packet is properly sealed after each use as the aroma can quickly dissipate if left open. Evne though they still seem to work fine afterwards, Duke clearly prefers them when they’re fresh and aromatic straight out of the bag!

I’ve had over ten years of experience with dogs and I must say, these are some of the best treats I’ve stumbled upon. However, if you’re looking for something chewier to keep your pup occupied longer, I would recommend browsing some dental chew options.

Anyone else have a favorite that works like a charm during training sessions?

I’ve gotta say, my Labrador Retriever, Hazel, simply adores these Yummy Combs. She’s quite a big girl and the large size was perfect for her. I particularly appreciate the ease with which she digests these treats, with no unpleasant surprises afterwards 💩! The only minor concern I had was the price – they seemed a bit steep initially.

For those who found them pricy too, consider this: I’ve noticed that Hazel’s much calmer during our grooming sessions when she has a Yummy Comb in her mouth. For me, it’s like investing in peace of mind.

Question to all: Any other high-quality dog treats you guys would recommend for large breeds? Always on lookout for variety without compromising on quality!

In my experience with my Golden Retriever, Lulu, I found that the larger kibble size was initially an adjustment for her too. However, soaking the Freshpet dry dog food in a bit of warm water softened it, making it easier to manage. This little trick could be useful if your pup is struggling with the bigger pieces. Moreover, although it may seem more expensive at first sight, I’ve noticed that Lulu feels full quicker from this food due to its higher nutritional content. Hence, I end up feeding her less and the bag lasts longer – so it kind of evens out cost-wise over time! Maybe your dog could get used to Freshpet with the right incentives and transition approach. Always remember though: if you’re worried about dental health or digestion issues because of kibble size, consult with a vet to ease your concerns.

in reply to: Giving Merrick Dog Treats a Try: An Honest Review #6747

I’ve been using Merrick treats for my Labradoodle, Charlie, as well and he seems to love the taste! I also appreciate that they’re grain-free which is a bonus since Charlie has a sensitive stomach. One thing to note though, some treats are quite hard and large in size. I had to break them down into smaller pieces for Charlie who’s on the medium side. Have you noticed this with your Bulldog too? And how do you manage this? Do you also break it down or does Bruce munch on them as is? Just wanted to get a sense of how other dog owners handle this. But overall, these treats are great value for money considering their quality ingredients!

While the kibble size with Freshpet is indeed a bit larger than some other brands, my best bud Chester (a Corgi mix, if you’re curious), kind of enjoys the challenge! He always had an adventurous streak and tackling these kibbles gives him a bit of an extra game during meal times. But I completely understand not all dogs might be up for this plus-sized surprise in their food bowl.

Has anyone tried maybe moistening the bits with warm water or broth before feeding? It might help soften and break up the kibble a little bit. Just curious to see how others have tackled this kibble conundrum. Remember though, if any drastic changes in your pup’s eating habits occur, it’s never a bad idea to consult your vet just to be on the safe side!

in reply to: Digging Deep: A NutriSource Dog Treats Review #7129

While I’ve found that my Buster loves the taste of NutriSource treats, I was initially taken aback by their small size. However, it quickly dawned on me that this option could be a smart way to monitor his snack intake. Pricey for sure, but hey, anything for our furballs, am I right? For those finding them too rich for your pocket or pup’s liking, I’ve had success switching over to Zuke’s Mini Natural Training Dog Treats. Buster seems equally in love with them and they are wallet-friendly too! Anyone else tried Zuke’s or something different?

Just reading about your experiences with Heart to Tail treats! I’ve also got a Lab, old Jasper, who’s similarly fussy about his treats. We tried Heart to Tail, and while he liked them initially, it seems he got bored of the taste after a while which is a bit disappointing given they aren’t exactly cheap.

Instead, I have switched him to Billy’s Best Bites – they work a charm for him, mainly because there’s a bigger range of flavors. If you’re considering trying something new, they could be worth checking out? But of course, every dog is different and it’s all about finding what makes their tail wag!

Have any of you tried Billy’s Best Bites or anything similar? Also curious how often are your fur babies getting treats? Jasper’s really good at using those puppy eyes to convince me he deserves one more!

Totally agree with all of you. I’ve been using Minties for my golden retriever, Bruno, for over a year and he just can’t get enough of them! I have noticed an improvement in his breath and he seems to really enjoy the crunchy texture. Plus, they’re reasonably priced which is always a big plus for me as an owner.

Quick question though: Has anyone tried using these treats during training sessions? Bruno has quite the energetic personality and we’re always looking for ways to incorporate rewarding him into those sessions without overfeeding him. Any thoughts would be appreciated!
