ParticipantSo, the SpotOn GPS Fence huh? While I echo your sentiments about it being revolutionary for our four-legged adventurous pals, I’m a little skeptical because of my own experience. It’s size and material are noteworthy but you know what’s not so cool? The durability!
The story goes like this: Jack, my lively golden retriever managed to give the “indestructible” device a good chew within the first week. Would’ve been nice if it was a bit more ‘dog-teeth-proof,’ don’t you agree? As far as the price is concerned, I won’t say much except that it’s probably worth getting insurance on it.
Nowadays, we’re using the Link AKC Smart Collar instead; seems to be holding up better, plus it’s got lifestyle and activity tracking. Jack quite fancies his new fancy collar. Anyone else tried both and can compare? Or maybe someone has found an even better alternative to these GPS systems?

ParticipantWhile I agree that the SpotOn GPS Fence has great convenience features and can provide a whole new level of freedom for our furry friends, I’ve found the size of the collar unit a bit bulky for my petite Shih Tzu, Millie. Plus10, considering the hefty price tag, it’s worth mentinoing it may not be affordable for all dog owners.
In terms of performance though, it’s true that SpotOn gives a boundary without physical barriers! That got me excited initially. However, due to Millie’s small frame and at times unpredictable behavior (Oh, you know these mischievous terriers!), I sticked to a traditional wired fence coupled with consistent obedience training which turned out more effective for us.
For those curious to give GPS fences a try yet intimidated by high-prices equipment like SpotOn – you might want to look into more budget-friendly alternatives such as the Findster Duo+. It doesn’t offer boundary settings but serves well in tracking your pup during outdoor adventures! Anyone else tried this or any other worthy options?

ParticipantJust a quick question for those who’ve been using the SpotOn GPS Fence for a while – have you encountered any issues with accuracy or consistency? I’ve read all about its conveniences, annd particularly impressed with the fact that it doesn’t require any physical installation like traditional fences do. But my prime concern would be ensure its reliability as I often take my hyperactive Golden Retriever on hikes and I’d absolutely hate if she strays away due to an instability in GPS signals. Would appreciate advice from anyone who’s well into their usage of the product!

ParticipantReply: I’ve been using the SpotOn GPS Fence for nearly 6 months now with my hyperactive Jack Russell, and so far, I’m really impressed! The size is portable enough for hiking trips and the material seems robust – even Barney’s gnawing hasn’t caused damage. It took a couple of tries to set up the virtual boundaries perfectly, but once that was done, it’s been smooth sailing. Price-wise, it leans on the expensive side, but considering the freedom and peace of mind it provides, I think it’s worth every penny.
One hiccup we faced was during our trip to a heavily wooded area; the signal seemed to get a bit spotty. Has anyone else experienced this? Wondering if there’s a way around it or if it is a blind spot in SpotOn’s coverage. All in all though- fantastic product!

ParticipantOh absolutely, the SpotOn GPS Fence is a real godsend for those of us cursed with wanderlust-addled doggos. My adventurous Beagle, Huckleberry, got it into his stubborn head that the neighborhood squirrels were to be chased out of town; went boundary-busting with traditional fences more times than I can count. Forget peace of mind, I was starting to develop an impressive collection of grey hairs!
The flexibility this GPS system offers is fantastic and so effortless compared to physical fences or other containment systems. Curve around the tree line, exclude the flower beds, heck – I even created a safe zone around my neighbor’s koi pond after Huckleberry took an unscheduled swim one spring afternoon (Sorry again, Mr. Henderson!)
As for durability, Huck’s not exactly gentle and this thing still looks like new after 6 months. Size-wise it’s very compact – doesn’t get in the way when he’s doing his zoomies.
It is a little pricey compared to traditional fences but honestly? Worth every penny for that peace of mind and freedom it gives to Huck (and me!). Anyone else’s furball turned into an explorer using this fancy device?

ParticipantAs a long-time dog owner, I’ve found the SpotOn GPS Fence incredibly convenient for my adventurous Border Collie. The size is perfect and it’s made from durable material which has stood up well to regular use over the past year. At first, I was on the fence (no pun intended) about buying it due to the price but it’s worth every penny!
You know those days when you’re camping in an unfamiliar place and you’re constantly worried your fur baby might wander off? This GPS fence has completely put my mind at ease during these trips. Also, remember that there’s a learning curve when setting it up for the first time; it may require some patience!
As for cleaning, it isn’t too complicated – every now and then I just wipe it down with a damp cloth and it’s good as new. My only gripe is that we had to do quite a lot of training tweaks before my Collie got comfortable with where his boundaries were.
Does anyone else have any other tips or tricks they’ve found helpful with using this product?

ParticipantTotally Agree, SpotOn GPS Fence – A Great Investment!
Absolutely in the same boat! My adventurous husky is a Houdini when it comes to escaping from our backyard, but with the SpotOn GPS Fence we’ve significantly reduced our stress levels! It has a fantastic range too – we can go hiking and still have reliable coverage. Waterproofing and durability are top-notch. And talking about cost; pricey at first glance, sure, but the peace of mind it offers is simply priceless.
My advice? Train your dog gradually with the GPS fence. Don’t jump right to maximum range. Start small – let them get used to the boundary notifications before expanding their territory. It helps your canine companion feel more confident and understand what’s happening better.
Anyone else have any acclimatization tips they’ve found particularly helpful? The thread could benefit from everyone’s collective wisdom! No harm in having an exhaustive list of tricks that might help make transitioning smoother for our furry friends, right?

ParticipantBeen using the SpotOn GPS Fence for my risk-taking Rottweiler, Dave, who loves to explore. This gadget is surprisingly robust given its compact size and wasn’t noticeably intrusive for Dave – he hardly knew it was there after I initially put it on him. The durability and accuracy of this system are truly remarkable.
We took a camping trip out to the local nature reserve recently and I decided to put the SpotOn device to the test. I set up a custom fence around our campsite, and Dave didn’t wander off as he typically tends to during our outdoor trips. Saved me hours of ‘Dave wrangling’. The price may be a bit on the heavier side, but the peace of mind it brought me was well worth it in hindsight.
It takes some time for both you and your dog to get used to the system, not hard though. Worth noting that if your dog is disobedient or badly trained, this isn’t a magic solution – remember, tech can assist but can’t replace good training! Anyone else found they had a similar positive experience with SpotOn?

ParticipantCompletely second the praise for the SpotOn GPS Fence! Best purchase I’ve made in a long time for my Rhodesian Ridgeback, Chuck. He has an unquenchable thirst for exploration and this gizmo has been a relief as it ensures he doesn’t wander off too far. Digital maps creation feature is extremely helpful with accurate boundaries.
I was initially worried about the battery life but it lasts surprisingly well. With careful usage and occasional recharging, we’re always ready to take on the open spaces without fear of Chuck losing his way back home.
Just one tip – set your boundary wider than you think. It gives them enough warning if they start approaching but not close enough to actually cross into the off-limit zone. Definite investment for those free-spirited dogs who love their sniff-around time. Anyone else here with Rhodesians who love straying away?

ParticipantI’m also on the SpotOn GPS Fence fan wagon! I’ve noticed a huge weight off my shoulders with my escape artist, Buddy, an Australian Shepherd with a knack for disappearing acts. Seriously, this thing not only keeps him safe but it also allows him to satisfy his adventurous spirt. Has anyone else found that sizing the virtual fence was a bit of trial and error? I admit, initially, I set mine too big, and Buddy was off visiting the neighbors again. After a few tweaks though, it’s working like a charm! Check weather conditions as well, severe weather can occasionally affect GPS signal. You think rain would deter these explorers, but no such luck here!

ParticipantAbsolutely endorse the SpotOn GPS Fence for outdoorsy dogs with an itch to explore. I’ve got a Siberian Husky, Bjorn, who simply loves getting his nose into everything! The reliable GPS technology and durable material of this gadget have been lifesavers during our hikes in the woods – no more worrying about Bjorn bolting off after some critter he’s sniffed out. Yes, it’s a bit pricey but worth imo considering the peace of mind it brings! Just a tip: do some preliminary test runs within your neighborhood before hitting the wider outdoors; acclimating your pup to the system will massively help. Has anyone also used thier training resources? How’d you find them?
