ParticipantI absolutely agree with all the praise Ol’ Roy dog treats have been getting! My lab, Benny, goes nuts for them. They are a good size for him – not too small he might choke but not so large I feel like he’s getting another meal. And talk about durability! Benny works on those treats for a good few minutes before they’re gone, and I love that I can also use these treats as a training reward. The price isn’t half bad either, especially compared to some of the “premium” brands out there.
However, with the fun comes a bit of mess. Any other owners notice how these treats leave crumbs? Was thinking of giving Benny his next Ol’ Roy outdoors or maybe even during bath time to keep things tidy. Thoughts?

ParticipantSo let’s talk about the size of these treats – they’re massive, aren’t they? In my snarky experience, anything bigger than a quarter is overkill for training treats. My terrier, Scooby, gobbled them up fast but then ignored the commands looking for more – hard to teach “sit” when your pup’s on a treat treasure hunt! I ended up chopping them into smaller peices. Anyone else thinking these treats should come in a more bite-sized format? Or maybe it’s just my little Scoob who can be a real snack-munching rogue at times!

ParticipantAgreed, the size of Ol’ Roy treats can be a surpise at first. When I first bought them for my terrier, Tucker, he definitely had some trouble breaking them apart. Gradually though, after using them for a couple weeks, Tucker kinda developed his own ‘knack’ for it. My advice if you’re dealing with it; try breaking them into smaller bites yourself. It saves your pup the struggle and you keep your hands clean!
Another alternative to consider would be Blue Buffalo’s Wilderness Trail Treats. They’ve got more manageable sizes and Tucker loves their crunchy duck biscuits just as much as the Ol’ Roy’s ones.
Sure is interesting how every dog has their own unique approach to chowing down on treats, isn’t it? What other brands have you all tried that provide smaller portions?

ParticipantTotally agree about the size of these Ol’ Roy dog treats. I’ve got a beagle, and when I first gave her one, she looked at me like I was crazy! But after chopping it up into smaller pieces, she gobbled it right up. As for price and quality, you can’t really beat ’em. Despite having to do a little extra prep work with cutting them down to size, I think they’re definitely worth it! Plus, who can resist those tail wags when the treat bag crinkles? Anyone else have to cut theirs up too or has l’il fur babe managed these monstrous treats whole?

ParticipantOh, you guys ain’t kiddin’ bout the size of those Ol’ Roy dog treats! I remember when I first bought a pack for my goofball Great Dane, and even he looked surprised at the size. But now, it’s his favorite part of playtime – chucking him one of those large treats and watching him make short work of it. They don’t break into pieces easily though, so if you’ve got a smaller dog, you might need to get something smaller or break these into pieces yourself. And if your furry pal is not used to large treats, definitely ease them in to avoid any tummy upset; best if in doubt consult with a vet.

ParticipantAbsolutely, the size of these Ol’ Roy treats realy takes you by surprise! When I first adopted my Rottweiler, Max, I decided to give them a shot. Given his build, I figured it’d be okay but even he seemed taken aback by the sheer size! Nonetheless, he grew to love them and they’re pretty durable too, which makes for long-lasting chewing sessions. For smaller breeds tho, maybe try breaking ’em into smaller pieces if you buy Ol’ Roy. It’s possibly a bit of extra effort but could be worth it considering the price. Does anyone else break up their treats? Or is there a preferable alternate that comes in varied sizes?

ParticipantWow, you guys are right on the money about Ol’ Roy dog treat sizes! I have a mini Dachshund, and the first time I introduced her to these treats, boy, she looked at me like “How am I supposed to chew this giant thing?” It was hilarious yet an eye-opener at the same time. To solve this issue, I started breaking them into smaller pieces before giving them to her which seems to work well. Extra advantage? The bag lasts longer that way! Incidentally, has anyone else broke these down or found a smaller-portioned option of Ol’ Roy treats?

ParticipantCan’t agree more about the size aspect, but my Lab seems to adore those hearty chunks! When I first introduced Ol’ Roy treats to Max, he choked a little due to the size. So, I started breaking them into smaller pieces and things went smoothly thereafter. For wee-sized dogs or for pups who are still getting used to solid foods, consider chopping up these treats or finding an alternate that’s better suited to their bite size. Remember your fur-buddy’s safety comes first! Has anybody tried rewarding their adult dogs with these by making them work a bit, like hiding it in a toy?

ParticipantAbsolutely agree with all of you about the size of the Ol’ Roy dog treats! I have two Boxer dogs and these treats are just perfect for them. In my experience, having sizable treats like Ol’ Roy has been really valuable during training sessions as it helps maintain their interest. The price is also quite friendly for those of us on a budget! Here’s a little tip: instead of giving one whole piece to smaller dogs, try breaking it into smaller pieces – it lasts longer and makes it less overwhelming for them! Aren’t we all looking to make our treat stash last a bit longer?

ParticipantI totally get where you guys are coming from about the size of these treats! My little yorkie, Benny, had a heck of a time trying to chomp down on thesebad boys. Even tho they’re larger than most, they were still durable enough to withstand his gnawing. For larger dogs like Labs and Boxers, I imagine these would be an absolute hit, especially considering their affordability!
Still, has anyone tried breaking them down into smaller pieces for smaller breeds? Does that affect their durability or your dogs’ interest in them? I personally noticed that Benny seemed far less interested once I started making the chunks smaller…it’s making me wonder if it’s just my Yorkie being picky, or if others have noticed this too!
Of course, as always, for digestive concerns related to new food or treat sizes, it won’t hurt to check with your vet!

ParticipantI have a 3-year old Rottweiler named Rufus who has been munching on Ol’ Roy treats since he was a pup. He still enjoys them but I’ve got something in my mind which might stir this discussion up a bit more. Considering these treats are larger than most other brands, has anyone discovered any creative ways of breaking them down into smaller pieces without making a mess? My Rufus is fit as a fiddle, but for tinier breeds or less active dogs portion control could be really important!

ParticipantI couldn’t agree more about the size of these Ol’ Roy dog treats. They’re absolutely perfect for my big fella, a Saint Bernard named Cooper. Coop’s a pretty picky eater but he goes nuts for them – even learnt to ‘sit’ quicker in anticipation of his favorite treat! The value for money is another big plus! The price is great and these treats last awhile, reducing frequent trips to the store. But like always, keep an eye on their intake, don’t want them getting too chunky! However, if you have smaller dogs or pets with dietary requirements, it might be worth consulting with your vet on suitable treat options. Anyone else with giant breeds noticed how much their dogs love these?

ParticipantJust recently brought home a puppy Lab named Sparky and considering the rave reviews, decided to give Ol’ Roy dog treats a go. The size turned out great for lil’ Sparky’s small mouth and he seems to love their taste. However, they crumbled quite a bit and I found tiny pieces all over my carpet. So while the flavor might be a hit with canines, the messiness could b an issue! Anyone else faced this or is Sparky just an overly enthusiastic chewer?

ParticipantI totally get where everyone’s coming from with the Ol’ Roy treat love. My senior Golden Retriever, Doodle, has been enjoying them for years and they’ve been a big hit. The size is ideal for her, not too small and not overly large. Plus, they’re strong enough to last her a good few minutes of chomping before they’re completely gone.
That said, I have noticed that these treats can be a bit tough/hard for older dogs or those with dental issues. It might not be an issue for younger puppies with strong jaws but just thought it would be worth mentioning. Our Yorkie struggles with them so we had to switch his treats.
Price-wise, I’d say they’re pretty affordable compared to other premium dog treats on the market. So if the hardness isn’t a turn-off for you and your pup, I’d say give Ol’ Roy a try! Just always remember to monitor your pet while they’re indulging to avoid any choking hazards. For any health-related concerns surrounding treats, it may be best to consult with a vet first before making any changes to their diet.
Has anyone else found their older dogs struggling with hardier treats like Ol’ Roy? Would love to hear about your experience or if there’s an alternative you’d recommend specifically for elder pups!

ParticipantOh, the Ol’ Roy treat saga continues! Been there, done that with my corgi, Lily. Sure, they fit her small mouth perfectly and didn’t make a dent in my wallet, but goodness me, the crumbs. I swear I was finding leftover bits in every nook and cranny of my home for weeks. Here’s a tip for y’all considering these- vacuum often! You’ll thank me later when your carpet isn’t 50% dog treat bits. Any others battling the crumb apocalypse? Now wondering if this is just a Lily-thing or an everyone thing.
