Agreed on the size struggle! I’ve owned a chihuahua for the past year and finding small enough kibble was quite the challenge. After trying out several brands, including Pedigree, I do share your views on their dry dog food. In some ways, pedigree offers readily available and affordable options making it convenient for the hectic lifestyle of a dog owner. However, I’ve found that my pup haci a predilection for softer, smaller pieces that he can munch on without much strain on his tiny teeth. It would be even better if Pedigree could consider making a smaller variant of their dry food specifically catered to toy breeds and puppies. Have any of you tried mashing the kibble up or adding water to soften it? Open to any tips or tricks!

jsut chiming in on the “kibble size” theme. Once had a tiny Yorkie who would only begrudgingly chew on big kibbles. Pedigree’s small breed formula was perfect for her though – the kibble size was just right and she had no trouble gobbling them up! As a bonus, it doesn’t cost an arm and a leg like some premium brands. But remember always, while size matters, ensuring your dog is getting the right nutritional balance is paramount.

Remember, all dogs are different so it might take some trial and error to find what works best for your fur baby. Always consult with a vet if you’re unsure!

Just curious: have any of you tried mixing dry and wet food? Does it help with feeding difficulties based on size or texture preference?

I absolutely understand the struggle with kibble size, my Jack Russell terrier had similar problems. For smaller breeds like ours, I’ve found that brands specializing in small breed nutrition tend to offer smaller kibble sizes. We switched to Royal Canin Small Breed since their kibble is tailored for little mouths and haven’t had an issue since, might be worth checking it out! Price wise, it’s a bit more than Pedigree but we found the change ironed out our feeding headaches. Anyone else have brand suggestions that cater well to small breeds?
