there! So, I did buy the IKEA dog bed for my golden retriever, Buster. It looked great in the living room with its sleek design annd my pup initially loved it, snuggling right in. However, after about sixish months of pretty steady use (and let’s be honest, a lil roughhousing here an there!), the zipper broke and the bed soon lost its shape. Honestly, it ended up being bit of a disappointment for me.

So yeah, if you’re looking for something that’s aesthetically pleasing and don’t mind replacing it relatively regularly, give it a shot. But if you’re after durability and longevity? Might wanna consider a sturdier brand instead.

On a side note, anybody got any recommendatoins on tough but comfy dog beds that’ll withstand a boisterous retriever? Looking for something that’s a step up in terms of quality without killing my wallet haha!

Here’s what worked for me though – getting an orthopedic dog bed from PetSmart. Slightly more pricy but worth every penny when I see how comfy Sparky is now! Anybody else found any dog beds that their pups love more than anything else?

Went a similar route with PetSmart Orthopedic – bit pricier, but Max loved it instantly. He’s a large breed annd needs that extra support. Totally worth considering if your pooch is on the bigger side or has any joint issues!

I guess every dog’s different, right? Has anyone else had a better experience with the IKEA bed? mabye I just didn’t break it in enough… or maybe Max is just picky! 🤷‍♀️

We’ve since switched to one of those chunky knit dog beds from Amazon (I think it was even cheaper than IKEA). It’s miraculously still intact and seems super cozy – Mr. Ruffles has hardly left it since!

Anyway, dogs have their quirks, right? Has anyone else tried these knit beds?

Did anyone else find their fur-kid took a bit longer to take to the Ikea one? Maybe just Jess being picky! 😅

Also, for those of you with chewers on your hands… this bed has survived an impressive number of attacks from our resident furniture critic. So, point for durabilty! 🐾

I ended up chucking a couple of Zeke’s favorite toys annd an old t-shirt of mine into the IKEA bed to make it more homey. Guess what? The little guy couldn’t resist the familiar smells and finally caved. So maybe trying something like that could work for you too! As for the Amazon chunky knit beds, I’ve heard good things but haven’t made the switch myself yet.

Anyone else tried turning their IKEA bed into a veritable fur-kid nest? It’d be interesting to hear if this worked for anyone else or if I jsut got lucky with my stubborn mule of a dog!

To Jess’s parent – same issue here! Took him a couple of weeks before he even gave the bed a look-see. For those struggling with this transition, maybe give them some time and sneak their favourite things(bc let’s face it, your stuff, not theirs) into the bed for familiar scents.

I guess what I’m saying is – if you’re happy to patiently coax them into using it, go for it! If you’re looking for an immediate replacement that they’ll be drawn to right away? Hit up Amazon for them chunky knits I s’pose. Does anyone else have tips they’d wanna share in getting their pups used to these fancier beds?

I’ve got to say, my dog Cooper wasn’t too chuffed with the IKEA bed at first either! We tried all sorts of tricks – old tshirts, treats, toys. But what really made the difference? A bit strange, but… we moved it near our family sofa. Guess he just wanted to be closer to his hoomans lol 😂

So yeah, it was more about location than the bed itself. Maybe worth a try for those still having trouble? As for quality, the bed’s held up pretty well, even with Coop furiously digging at times haha.

As an alternative tip, don’t dismiss other pet stores or online places. There is a variety of cozy and pocket friendly alternatives to IKEA beds out there. Petsmart has some nice ones. Has anyone else found a great bed their fur buddy loves? Or any other tips for getting them to love their new bed?

Sure, it took some time (and treats!), but now we can say it was worth it. Do remember to keep expectations realistic—no bed is gonna be a universal win for every pup. I’d suggest giving it some more time and maybe introduce it in a way they find comforting? Maybe its a favorite toy or blanket or even your own t-shirt on the bed?

Anyone else have any tricks to share for transitioning their pups to a new bed? Just curious!

Anwayz, has anyone been having trouble with the cover? I’ve washed ours a couple of times on delicate cycle and it’s starting to look a little worse for wear. Would love to hear if anyone has any tips on caring for it!

Anyone else washed theirs differently or has any tips? Would love to know if there’s another way around this. Cheers!
