ParticipantI’ve been using the Tractive GPS for about 6 months now with my adventurous Border Collie, and I must say it’s been a real lifesaver. She likes to wander off on our walks, chasing any leaf that blows her way!
The tracker itself is compact and lightweight – just clips right onto her collar, no fuss. It seems pretty durable, has survived a few wild runs through brambles and even a dip in the local pond.
In regards to price, it does require a subscription, but I think the peace of mind it gives me when she goes rogue is more than worth it!
One tip though, make sure you set up the “safe zones” according to where your pup usually hangs out. We had a few false alarms before we got this sorted.
Has anyone tried using Tractive on smaller breeds? Curious how the size of the device would work for tinier companions.

ParticipantI’ve been using the Tractive GPS tracker for my Siberian Husky for around a year now and it’s been a complete game changer in terms of peace of mind. The tracker is pretty light, fits perfectly on her collar without bothering her, and seems to stand up to all the wear and tear she puts it through on our daily walks and hikes. I was initially worried about its durability, especially after a couple of unexpected dives in the lake (she couldn’t resist those ducks!), but it has proven its worth and then some! The monthly subscription fee is well worth it for the detail I get on her location.
Word of advice ehre, start with short walks or trips while keeping close tabs on your fur baby until you both get used to operating this little device. Also, don’t panic when you see occasional false alarms, GPS can be quirky at times; mostly spot on though!
Has anyone else had similar experiences or any other tips using GPS trackers in general?

ParticipantI’ve seen some great reviews on Tractive GPS but gave the Findster Duo+ Pet Tracker a try for my Great Dane. It’s a bit pricier, but it has no monthly fees, which can add up over time with the Tractive. The size was perfect and quite durable; it survived the rough play sessions at our local dog park without any hiccups. The Findster also has a range of up to 3 miles, more than enough for us even on our rural hikes. Anyone else tried this as an altrenative? Would love to hear your thoughts!

ParticipantBoy oh boy, where do I start with the Tractive GPS dog tracker? Well, firstly let’s just say my rebellious little Beagle, Bert – who thinks he’s a cross between Indiana Jones and Houdini – managed to actually lose two of them so far. These things are small and lightweight, sure, but durable they ain’t!
Now being in the gadget game for over a decade, I know a thing or two about these products. Let me tell ya, the price is pretty steep too. And if you’re like me with an escape artist doggo, you might end up having to buy more than one.
That said, when it is on him and working properly, it does give some peace of mind knowing Bert’s not made off to explore God knows where – all without leaving my couch! But word of advice: make sure your pup can’t easily wriggle out their collar or it’s bye-bye tracker! Anyone else had to buy more than one tracker due to adventurous dogs?

ParticipantI wholeheartedly agree with the positive reviews flying around about the Tractive GPS dog tracker. Using it for my adventure-loving Beagle has been a total game changer. Size-wise, it is just perfect – not too big to weigh her down, yet sturdy enough for those frequent wilderness escapades. I mean, you’d expect something less durable considering its reasonable price point! Though, a handy tip: make sure your area has decent cell service becuase the tracker operates on cellular networks. For anyone else whose pup loves to wander, what kind of activities has your furry friend gotten up to while wearing this tracker?

ParticipantWhile I appreciate all the positive chatter about the Tractive GPS, did anyone else find it a bit larger than expected? Don’t get me wrong, the tracking capabilities are exceptional and ultimately what you’re getting it for, but when I initially attached it to my spry little Miniature Schnauzer, “Biscuit,” he seemed a bit perplexed by his new neck accessory.
I’m also concerned about the durability over time due to frequent outdoor exposure. How is everyone else’s fairing after a few months/years? Oh, and if you happen to have a smaller breed like mine, here’s a wee tip: introduce the tracker slowly by attaching it during their most active times so they could adapt quicker. Has anyone figured any other creative training tweaks regarding size/durability?

ParticipantAbsolutely agree with most of what’s been said about the Tractive GPS dog tracker, especially about it being user-friendly annd accurate! The size was a bit larger than I expected but my Lab, Max, had no issues wearing it. And talk about durability, Max pulled his usual Houdini act in the park and even after a frolic in the creek, the device came out working perfectly fine! Now on to the price, mabye it’s a bit steep but for me, it’s worthy investment for peace of mind. On a side note, has anyone tried using it in heavily wooded areas? Wondering how the signal holds up there.

ParticipantYou know, while I totally get why people are raving about the Tractive GPS dog tracker, for me it’s been a bit of a mixed bag. Sure, the device is pretty compact and durable, plus it doesn’t bother my Golden Retriever, Maxi (he barely even knows it’s there). However, I would caution that in heavily wooded areas, the signal can be a little spotty, which gave us a few scares during our hiking trips. If we’re talking price, it is slightly on the steep side but then again, you’re paying for safety and peace of mind.
Now, don’t get me wrong – the Tractive has many more pros than cons. But those looking for an alternative might consider something like the Garmin T5 GPS Dog Tracker. It’s got great coverage even in dense locations and its rugged design really holds up well against all kinds of roughhousing from Maxi! Hope this helps! Anyone else has tried Garmin or any other good alternatives?

ParticipantA bit late to the party here but just wanted to chime in and say that I found the Tractive GPS dog tracker to be a bit overhyped, especially given its size. It’s like strapping a walkie-talkie on Fido instead of a lightweight tracker. Besides, my Golden Retriever, who has never met a mud puddle he didn’t instantly fall in love with, managed to compromise its “durability” within the first week – so ‘rugged design’, they said.
If you’re looking for a more compact yet equally efficient alternative, try out the Whistle Go Explore tracker. My experience using it has been much better since it’s less bulky and Billy, my other dog and mischief-maker-extraordinaire, hasn’t been able to dispatch it to the Happy Hunting Grounds yet – touch wood. The price is also pretty comparable too if not slightly more reasonable.
So yeah, Tractive isn’t a terrible choice by any means but if you have an active or adventurous pup then there are certainly other options you might want to consider. Does anyone else share this perspective or have other alternatives they’d recommend?

ParticipantSize Matters with Tractive GPS Dog Tracker
Hey folks, thought I’d throw in my two cents regarding the Tractive GPS tracker. My little pug, Snuffles, is a firecracker that loves to explore, which is why I picked up this tracker. One thing that bothered me though was the size. It’s a bit bulky and seemed uncomfortable for Snuffles at first especially due to his small frame.
Over time he got used to it, but I still think it’s more suitable for medium to large dog breeds. The material and durability are top-notch though, no complaints about that or the price realy. Has anyone else faced similar issues with the size? I’m considering looking for alternative trackers specifically designed for smaller breeds.

ParticipantSure, the Tractive may have a sleek design and impressive features, but it ain’t perfect. Had one for my Bullmastiff, Diego, and let’s just say it didn’t pass the Diego destroy test! The little bugger loved the thing just a bit too much (perhaps that new-tech smell?) and managed to chew off part of it within a week. Despite its flaws though, gotta respect the accurate GPS tracking and the monthly fee isn’t too terrible compared to others on the market. Anyone else here had experience with quite literal doggy ‘product tests’ like mine? Remember folks, durability can be just as important as features when choosing a tracker fit for your furkid!

ParticipantBeen using the Tractive GPS tracker with my large Labrador Rex for about 6 months now, and I have some mixed feelings. While it’s true that the sleek design is quite appealing, I noticed that it might not be the best fit for bigger dogs. On Rex, it seems cumbersome and he tends to knock it around quite a bit. Anyone else having this same issue with larger breeds? Does anyone have suggestions on how to manage this situation better? Or even a different product recommendation perhaps?

ParticipantFunny seeing the size point being brought up, because I’ve had a pretty different experience. Been using the Tractive for my petite Pomeranian, Bella, for over a year now and honestly, I’ve found it to be just about right in terms of size. I think it depends a lot on your dog’s personality too – Bella isn’t bothered by it one bit.
In terms of material and durability though, Tractive holds up well. Even after Bella’s many outdoor adventures, the tracker still seems as good as new. The price is a little steep, but for the peace of mind it provides, I’d say it’s worth every penny!
Still, if you’re looking for a smaller solution, might I suggest looking into the Whistle Go Explore? It’s compact and lightweight design might better suit those who have smaller pets or pets sensitive to wearing accessories.
Just some food for thought!

ParticipantAgreement: Agree with the point on Tractive’s impressive features but I’ve also found a few hiccups in my experience. Used it for my own tought little Jack Russel, Snickers and ran into some issues.
Experience/Advice: Consistent accuracy of location updates was a bit sketchy in rural areas, which nearly gave me a heart attack once when Snickers decided to go on an unsolicitd adventure. Might be due to the weak cell service around those parts so maybe not entirely Tractive’s fault. Still, might wan’t to consider this if your pup is a real escape artist and you live in less urban locales.
Alternative: Ended up switching to Garmin’s T 5 Mini – better area coverage but still no gps tracker is foolproof. Always best to keep a close watch on your pupand work on that recall training!05/08/2025 at 11:01 PM #7581Gentle_Beagle_8151
ParticipantSizing and Durability of Tractive GPS Tracker?
I’ve been looking into getting a Tractive GPS tracker for my German Shepherd, Bella. I’m hearing mixed feedback about the size of the device. For those who have used Tractive with larger dogs, has its size caused any discomfort or inconvenience? Also, how’s the overall durability? Bella loves to play rough in the backyard and I don’t want it to easily break. All feedback appreciated!
